Rom its founding in the Elder Days as recounted in The Silmarillion to the Third Age of The Lord of the Rings including the journeys of Bilbo Frodo and the Fellowship of the RingHundreds Atlas Of MOBI #190 of maps and diagrams survey the journeys of the principal characters. I think this book is indispensable if you are reading the Silmarillion I started the book without it and soon realised the entire book is full of geographical descriptions as elves and men are constantly moving round Middle Earth I prefer to relate stories like this to a map but found only a very small map of Beleriand embedded within Tolkien's text it was frustrating not to be able to follow all the events which occurred on a map This Atlas solved my problem as it has a number of fairly detailed maps of the regions of Middle Earth and Valinor described in the text There are also explanatory notes next to many of the maps which help to explain their context and relevance It is also very helpful for reading the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings although these two books do have some maps included as appendices

Atlas Of Tolkiens Middle EarthFind your Tolkiens Middle PDF #180 way through every part of JRR Tolkiens great creation from the Middle earth of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to the undying lands of the West The Atlas of Tolkiens Middle earth is an essential guide to the geography of Middle earth f. I have mentioned elsewhere in my review of the Silmarillion how useful this volume is It really does help the reader navigate the unusual terrain of Middle earth particularly if you are used to the land as it was in Lord of the Rings getting your head around how it changed through the ages is important Sometimes there are places written of in the Tolkien's works that I couldn't find on the maps Having said that it had a very useful index I think colourful distinction in the presentation of the maps would have made them readable all the similar sepia tones are not as readable Having said that I wouldn't be without it
